Forecasters say the tornado was on the ground for less than a minute on Thursday about eight miles east of Larkspur, which is 23 miles north of Colorado Springs.
This is the first fall tornado for Douglas County since the best records started back in 1950. Before that, the latest tornado recorded in the county was on August 29, 2002.
A late season tornado is very rare for the entire Denver metro area. 9NEWS found only six September tornadoes in the last 62 years.
A tornado warning issued for the area has expired.
