The defense told the judge they were denied access Thursday when they tried to meet with their client after he was returned to jail from a trip to a hospital for undisclosed reasons. The attorneys said jail officials refused to disclose any details about James Holmes' condition. Jail officials refused comment.
Denver media outlets, citing unnamed sources, reported Holmes was injured when he hit his head on a wall, apparently intentionally. A hearing scheduled Thursday was postponed until Dec. 10.
Holmes is charged with fatally shooting 12 people and injuring at least 58 in a crowded theater in July.
