Izzie has been in the care of Colorado State University graduate Molly Reeve who is doing work in Belize.

Reeve says Izzie lost her mother after poachers shot her. They were trying to capture Izzie to sell as a pet, but the poachers accidentally shot Izzie as well.

She's been living with pellets in her body as well as a broken arm and dislocated tail. 9NEWS viewers donated enough money to send a veterinarian all the way to Belize.

Doctor Adolf Maas volunteered to do the surgery in early December.

Reeve says Izzie's surgery went well and Izzie should now make a full recovery.
