Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Ronald Roberts recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Saint Joseph's Hawks defeated the Richmond Spiders, 61-55, in Atlantic 10 Conference action at Hagan Arena.
Carl Jones contributed a game-high 17 points and four boards for the Hawks (14-9, 5-5 A-10). C.J. Aiken added 10 points and four blocks and was one rebound shy of a double-double as SJU snapped a two-game losing streak.
For the Spiders (14-11, 4-6), Kendall Anthony chipped in a team-high 13 points off the bench. Cedrick Lindsay added 12 points. Wayne Sparrow contributed nine points and eight boards as Richmond lost for the fourth time in five games.
In the opening 20 minutes, Richmond made 40 percent from the floor including 5-of-10 beyond arc. The Spiders limited SJU to a mere 0-of-4 3-pointers, en route to a 36-27 advantage at the break.
SJU generated a comeback effort by making 45.5 percent from the floor including 3-of-6 from long range. It held the visitors to a mere 1-of-10 beyond the arc, as the Hawks took a 34-19 advantage in the second to complete the rally.
Richmond committed 22 personal fouls, allowing 20 made free throws for the Hawks. However, SJU dominated the boards, 42-29.
