DENVER - There is good news for Denver-area hospitals as of Wednesday.
The Denver-area now ranks among the 20 best places in America where hospitals have the lowest overall mortality rates.
The Denver-based company, which operates the Healthgrades online medical-ratings service, included that finding in its new report for "America's Best Hospitals in 2013."
Dayton, Ohio is ranked first with an in-hospitality mortality rate of 4.68 percent. The Denver area - including Aurora and Broomfield - was No. 17 at 5.45 percent. That is tied with the Chicago area.
The Health Grades report also listed the best hospitals in the country. North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley was among the 100 best. The only Colorado hospital ranked among the 50 best was Penrose St. Francis Health Services, which includes Saint Francis Medical Center, in Colorado Springs.
