The NBS is a biennial event and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the organization. This event, known as the Black Ski Summit, will be held during the week through March 2.

"Celebrate-Reflect-Renew" is the theme of the event to epitomize the essence of the organization's anniversary year. This anniversary summit will bring together thousands of African-American winter sports enthusiasts.

"Our organization's 40th anniversary is momentous and a milestone in our history. We are very excited to return to Snowmass to commemorate and reflect on our achievements over the years. Snowmass is one of the premier mountains, and our members look forward to returning to the resort's beautiful scenic surroundings and ski terrains fit for all levels of skiing and snowboarding," Diana Starks, NBS president, said.

The NBS plans a non-stop schedule of events during the Summit. Beyond the skiing, riding and social events, the organization will host leadership meetings. Summit week's most popular events will include Opening Ceremonies; Picnic-On-The-Hill; Anniversary Gala; Club Races; and numerous apr├Ęs ski gatherings.

"We are excited to host the NBS Summit in Snowmass this year, especially to help them celebrate their 40th anniversary," Karla Baker, national sales manager for Snowmass Tourism Group Sales, said. "I have had the pleasure of working with the NBS for many years and the energy, enthusiasm and camaraderie of this group brings a very special spirit to our town."

The Summit is a fundraiser of the National Brotherhood of Skiers. Summits are held during odd years. The primary purpose of this fundraiser is to support the NBS Olympic Scholarship Fund, designed to provide financial support for exceptional athletes of color who excel in winter sports. Many NBS clubs have youth program that put athletes on track for national competition and development. The intent is to propel these young athletes to Olympic and international competition. In addition, funds from this event support the operation of the National Brotherhood of Skiers, Inc.
