BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A former Marine who gained notoriety after pleading guilty to staging his disappearance to avoid returning to the military is back in jail.

The Daily Camera reports Lance Hering was booked into the Boulder County jail Thursday to begin serving a 10-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to unlawful conduct on public property in a 2012 case. Police had arrested him after his roommates reported he was drunk and violent.

The Iraq war veteran will be allowed to serve out the sentence on a work crew.

In 2009, Hering pleaded guilty to false reporting after he and a friend staged his disappearance from Eldorado Canyon State Park in 2006. Hering was found and arrested in Washington state in 2008.
