SILVERTHORNE -A winter storm is being blamed for two separate pile-ups involving more than 50 vehicles on Interstate 70 in Summit County Monday afternoon.
The first accident, located westbound at mile marker 205, involved 25 vehicles and approximately 27 people, 3 of whom were transported to Saint Anthony Summit Medical Center. None of the injuries were reported to be serious.
The second incident took place eastbound at mile marker 202. There were 29 vehicles involved, with no serious injuries reported.
Pictures from the scene near Silverthorneshow multiple vehicles with front-end damage in the median, including semi-trailer trucks.
The Colorado Department of Transportationclosed portions of the interstate in both directions while crews cleared the scene.
Multiple agencies responded to the two incidents including the Colorado State Patrol, Lake Dillon Fire Rescue, Copper Mountain Fire Department, Summit County Sheriff's Office and the Silverthorne and Frisco Police Departments.
The accidents came on a day when ski resorts along I-70 reported lots of fresh snow. Loveland reported a foot of new snow Monday, and Copper Mountain said it had 10.
