DENVER - A man convicted of striking and killing a University of Denver student in a hit-and-run crash last May will spend 18 years in prison, the maximum sentence.

Andrew Simpson was sentenced Thursday in a Denver courtroom.

Simpson ran a red light and killed DU student Masoud Bahramisharif on May 31, 2012 as Bahramisharif was crossing East Evans Avenue and South University Boulevard.

Simpson fled the scene but was later tracked down by a tip to Aurora police.
