KUSA - A Colorado Springs man is lucky to be alive after being attacked by a bison while in Utah for the Antelope Island Buffalo Run on Saturday.
Ty Draper says he and a few other spectators saw a bison right in the path of oncoming runners.
Draper says he tried to shoo the animal off race path, but it instead charged him. Draper escaped with only minor injuries.
Parker bison rancher Glen Marshall says the animals can be very protective of their territory and their young.
"If you're a stranger to them and they are to you, don't go in their territory," Marshall said. "It's a good idea to just give them their space."
Draper says he was not, as original reports suggested, throwing rocks at the bison.
