DENVER- No. 52 will never be worn again for the Colorado Avalanche.
The organization announced Friday that the longtime defenseman Adam Foote's sweater will be raised to the rafters in honor of his illustrious career next year. A date for the ceremony has yet to be set.
Foote joins Joe Sakic (19), Ray Bourque (77), Patrick Roy (33) and Peter Forsberg (21) as the only other numbers to be retired in Avalanche history.
He played 19 seasons in the NHL, 17 of which were with Colorado, and helped lead the franchise to a pair of Stanley Cup Championships in 1996 and 2001.
