DENVER - The family of a man shot by Denver police Monday night says he has PTSD and schizophrenia.
The family of Sam Clementi says police shot the 58-year-old six times when he moved toward officers and didn't obey their commands.
Clementi had been living at Heather Grove Veterans Assisted Living in the Highlands. Officers were called there because Clementi was threatening to kill himself.
"He's a sweet guy," Clementi's sister Anna Steenbock said. "Everybody at Heather Grove loves him. He's got some medical issues, but that's why he's there, to get the help that he needs, not to be killed or shot at excessively."
Clementi is at Denver Health in critical condition. He is expected to survive.
