RIFLE - A new wildfire has started in Rifle Mountain Park.

Saturday morning, the wildfire was reported at 300 acres and is growing rapidly with 'extreme fire behavior,' according to officials.

The fire has threatened structures near the fish hatchery and Rifle Mountain Park. An evacuation order is inplace for residents north of Rifle Gap along Highway 325.

An evacuation center is at the Garfield County Fairgrounds. Access is off of 14 Street. All residents north of the fish hatchery should evacuate through the Triangle Park area.

Citizens are asked to avoid the area.

Highway 325 has been closed in both directions 7 miles north of Rifle, due to wildfire in the area with no estimated time of opening.

Three SEATs were ordered to fight the fire. Rifle Fire, Garfield County Sheriff's Office and other interagency crews are on the scene assisting.

The fire is believed to be sparked by lightning.
