GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - The death of a woman whose body was found by tourists at the Colorado National Monument has been ruled a homicide.

The Mesa County coroner's office said Wednesday that 49-year-old Kathy Fortner of Grand Junction died of blunt force injuries to the head.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported that tourists taking photos discovered her body Tuesday near the west entrance to the monument.

Investigators have been looking at surveillance video from around the monument. The sheriff's surveillance drone was also seen flying over the area.

The 32-square-mile monument is a semi-desert landscape of cliffs, canyons and towers. It's about 5 miles south of Grand Junction.
