ARAPAHOE COUNTY - An inmate is being held on $10 million bond after investigators say he tried to hire a hit man to kill a prosecutor in the county.

Christian Harvey asked his cell mate to kill a woman who had previously prosecuted him after he admitted to having sex with a young teen, court documents reviewed by 9Wants to Know allege. Harvey is 19, but was 18 when he was charged last year.

He is charged with solicitation of first degree murder.

Harvey's cell mate notified his attorney who notified prosecutors of Harvey's alleged plan.

"This was not an afterthought. He is alleged to have thought about this for some time," Denver District Attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said.

Because the case involves a prosecutor in Arapahoe County, the Denver District Attorney's Office is acting as a special prosecutor in the case.

Court documents show Harvey's cell mate wore a wire allowing prosecutors to hear Harvey's plan.

According to court records, it involved shooting off both of the prosecutor's legs with a shotgun to make the murder look like a gang hit.

After the murder, Harvey wanted the hit man to steal the prosecutor's cell phone, checks, laptop, cash and her car, documents say.

When investigators interviewed Harvey, court documents say he admitted to the plan. Harvey told investigators he wanted her shot and her body burned along with her residence, court documents say.

"To have allegations involving someone wanting to kill a person simply for doing their job is extremely serious, very disturbing," Kimbrough said.
