LA PLATA COUNTY - Authorities in La Plata County are investigating a possible meth lab identified by a property owner in one of his outbuildings.

The property owner told police the suspect was in control of the outbuilding for several months.

A search warrant was executed on the building on July 3. Investigators donned safety equipment, including Tyvek suits and self-contained breathing apparatuses to explore the building, where they found an inactive methamphetamine lab and seized chemicals, glassware and other items.

Samples of the chemicals were sent to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for testing. No arrests have been made.

No information will be released on the suspect's location, the location of the property or the property owner until the investigation has concluded.

A lab cleanup company from New Mexico was contracted to come to the scene and take custody of the remaining chemicals and materials.
