DENVER - The woman convicted in the death of her 4-year-old grandson was sentenced on Friday.
Becky Trujillo received the maximum sentence of eight years on her criminally-negligent child abuse charge. She has already served 479 days in prison, which will be credited towards the eight years she is set to serve.
This case was a part of the 9Wants to Know Failed to Death cases investigated previously.
Prosecutors say Trujillo tortured, beat and starved Gabriel in the months leading up to his death. They also say she forced him to stand naked in the cold as punishment.
She was convicted of criminally-negligent child abuse. Gabriel's mother says she's frustrated the case didn't end with a first-degree murder conviction.
