SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Mormon mom from Utah wants to be able to give a specialized form of medical marijuana to her 11-year-old son who suffers from debilitating seizures.
Jennifer May of Pleasant Grove, Utah, says they have tried countless medications and treatments but none has worked for the young boy. He has a rare form of epilepsy called Dravet syndrome. He suffers seizures that sometimes last for 45 minutes or more.
May is leading a push to introduce a measure in the Utah legislature that would allow her to bring back a liquid form of medical marijuana from Colorado that is working for children with the same syndrome.
Her story was first made public in a blog post last week by the Libertas Institute, a Utah Libertarian group. The Salt Lake Tribune wrote about her Tuesday.
