DENVER (AP) - A former soldier from Fountain has been sentenced to 7 years and 3 months in prison for helping steal fuel from a military base in Afghanistan that cost the federal government more than $1.5 million.

The Justice Department announced the sentence Tuesday for 35-year-old Stephanie Charboneau.

She pleaded guilty in September to bribery and conspiracy to commit bribery.

Prosecutors say she was involved in a scheme that used fake documents to get truckloads of fuel out of a base in Afghanistan. The documents claimed the fuel was going to other bases, but prosecutors say it was stolen.

Prosecutors say Charboneau and others got money from the trucking company.

Two others pleaded guilty in the scheme and were sentenced to between 2 and 3 years in prison. A third awaits sentencing.
