KUSA - 3 Days To Kill opens this week. Kevin Costner plays a dangerous spy, determined to give up the espionage game, for a chance at a better life with his wife and daughter.

Costner talked about the film on 9NEWS 8 a.m.

Costnersaid he could relate to his character's struggle to balance work and family, especially given the jam-packed shooting schedule he has been juggling within the past year.

"I've tried to be careful with that in my life. It's important that I work - that I support my family, but I think we always look for a balance," Costner explained. "We knew that I was going to work a lot this last year and a half (which) translated into these movies."

Costner first gained recognition as an actor for his roles in such films as Silverado, The Untouchables, No Way Out, Bull Durham, and Field of Dreams. But it was his move behind the camera as director and producer that earned him two Academy Awards for Dances with Wolves, as well as a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Since then he has appeared inRobin Hood: Prince of Thieves, JFK, The Bodyguard, Waterworld, Tin Cup, Thirteen Days, Open Range, The Upside of Anger, and most recentlyJack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

He was also in the TV mini-series Hatfields & McCoys.
