DENVER - Police say a man suspected in the hit-and-run death of an 11-year-old boy in Denver told them he was racing against a motorcycle.
Oswaldo Lopez, 21, appeared in court Tuesday to be formally advised that he faces possible charges of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Court records don't list an attorney for him. He hasn't been formally charged so he hasn't entered a plea.
Police said in a statement of probable cause that Lopez told them he was racing at the time the boy was hit on Sunday night.
Police have said the car was moving 60 mph when it struck Michael Espinoza.
The boy's family says he was walking home from a restaurant with his cousin.
