KUSA- The ladies take to ice in figure skating starting Wednesday in Sochi for the short program. One of the vital elements to a performance is a costume and one woman in Denver helps make those designs for top athletes.

Bobbi Akana's craft started with necessity, when her daughter needed costumes for skating. Long after Akana's daughter stopped skating, the sewing continued.

Attention to detail is key and the judges are always looking.

"They look at how it fits," Akana said. "They look at the colors. They look how it moves, whether it fits the music or if it's age-appropriate even because some of the skaters are young."

The skill Akana uses in a backroom in her home in Denver is as much a part of a performance as any music or move.
