Delray Beach, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seed Tommy Haas and second-seeded American John Isner were among Tuesday's first-round winners at the Delray Beach Open tennis event.

Haas, who titled here in 2006, cruised past American qualifier Wayne Odesnik 6-2, 6-1 in 55 minutes on the hardcourts at Delray Beach Tennis Center.

Isner rallied past fellow American Michael Russell 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.

Third seed Kei Nishikori, who successfully defended his title on Sunday in Memphis, outlasted qualifier Gastao Elias 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.

In other action involving seeds, No. 4 South African Kevin Anderson fought back to beat American Tim Smyczek 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, No. 5 American Rhyne Williams was leading Alejandro Falla 6-3, 4-0 when the Colombian retired and No. 8 Aussie Lleyton Hewitt drubbed American Bradley Klahn 6-3, 6-1.

Also on Day 2, American Ryan Harrison was trailing Taipei's Yen-Hsun Lu 4-6, 1-0 when Lu retired; Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili overcame Matthew Ebden 2-6, 6-3, 6-2; Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis came from behind to top Czech Jiri Vesely 3-6, 6-2, 6-1; Israeli Dudi Sela dropped Russian Alex Bogomolov Jr. 6-0, 6-2; Aussie Marinko Matosevic mauled Belgian David Goffin 6-2, 6-4; Ivo Karlovic of Croatia defeated Samuel Groth of Australia 7-6 (7-4), 6-3; and American Steve Johnson stifled Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin 6-4, 6-3.
