KUSA - A Routt County woman accused of shooting and killing her 9-year-old son pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Lisa Lesyshen was ordered to undergo a mental evaluation after entering her plea during an arraignment Thursday.

She is charged with first-degree murder, child abuse leading to death and domestic violence.

Lesyshen is accused of shooting her son, Asher Lesyshen-Kirlan, multiple times before shooting herself in the neck on May 29, 2013.

It happened at the family's home in Oak Creek, about 10 miles south of Steamboat Springs.

Lesyshen and her husband were in the process of separating when the shooting occurred.

Prosecutors will not be seeking the death penalty in this case.

Lesyshen will have the psychological evaluation done in Denver because of her paraplegic condition.

If the case goes to trial it is tentatively scheduled to start sometime in October.

Lesyshen is being held in the Denver County Jail infirmary because the Routt County Jail is not equipped to house her.
