AURORA - A small explosion in the basement of an Aurora home jolted a neighborhood awake Thursday morning.
Firefighters responded to 936 South Joliet St. around 9:30 a.m. on reports of an explosion and structure fire. Crews worked quickly to get the basement fire under control.
Two of the three residents were on their way to work when the incident happened. The couple couldn't reach the third resident, a mother, who was at home at the time of the explosion. She was not injured in the explosion.
The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the family that says, it was "shaken up." There were no injuries initially reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
