ARVADA - Arvada Police are investigating a situation that caused Sierra Elementary School and Oberon Middle School to be placed on lockout Wednesday morning.

Initially, Arvada Police told 9NEWS that Ralston Valley High School was also placed on lockout Wednesday morning, but the school later clarified that was not the case.

The incident began in Broomfield near 120th Avenue and Lamar Street. Broomfield Police reports officers responded to a domestic situation between a male and female who were driving in that area.

Broomfield Police officers were in contact with the female inside the car. The male driver pulled the car over and ran from it near West 80th Avenue and Simms Street in Arvada.

Broomfield Police tells 9NEWS that the male suspect was located and taken into custody. According to police, a K-9 search was conducted to search for a gun the male suspect may have possessed. This activity caused the schools in the area to be placed on lockout by Arvada Police.

The situation ended around 11:30 a.m. The lockouts were lifted just before noon.

Broomfield Police says the domestic incident involved a dispute over the ownership of the car.
