DENVER - The finalist cities for hosting the Republican National Convention have just been announced.

The finalists are:

  • Cincinnati
  • Cleveland
  • Columbus
  • Dallas
  • Denver
  • Kansas City
  • Las Vegas
  • Phoenix

The Chairman of the Republican National Committee announced the finalists via Twitter at 8 a.m. on Thursday.

The city selected to host the RNC is expected to be announced in May.

If Denver were to be awarded the next Republican convention, leaders expect the benefit to be similar - bringing 50,000 visitors to the city. Denver has already hosted the Democratic National Convention in 2008. That convention generated about $133 million in revenue for the region.

Both local Democratic and Republican leaders like the idea of Denver hosting, since it would put Denver on the world stage and mean a lot of visitor dollars for Colorado.
