DENVER (AP) - A man who was imprisoned in New York has been extradited to Colorado on charges of fatally beating a woman in a Denver church in 1979.

Prosecutors said Thursday 52-year-old James Scott faces charges of first-degree murder and other counts in the death of 19-year-old Martha Guzman.

He hasn't entered a plea and it's unclear whether he has a lawyer.

Guzman had been alone in the church, preparing for a service, when she was attacked. Scott was identified as a suspect in 2006, when he was extradited from New York to Colorado in an unrelated assault and kidnapping case.

He couldn't be charged at the time because he'd been brought to Colorado solely for the other case.

Scott was serving a sentence on a sexual assault conviction in New York.
