GRAND COUNTY - A Grand County Court judge rejected a plea deal for a drunk driver charged in a crash last July that killed one person and injured four others.

Lucas Ackerman had been charged in a crash that occurred near Grand Lake July 4, 2013.

The plea deal would have sentenced Ackerman to one year in jail for a driving under the influence charge and a four-year deferred judgment on one count of vehicular homicide and four counts of vehicular assault.

Sky-Hi News reports that District Judge Mary Hoak rejected the plea bargain, because she said it diminished the seriousness of the crime and sent the wrong message.

Ackerman's blood alcohol content was reportedly nearly twice the legal limit when he hit and killed Gregory Westley and injured four members of his family, including three of his kids.

The case has been reset for arraignment on March 25.
