DENVER - In case you still didn't realize how big a deal the grand opening of Denver Union Station was for Colorado, here's your next clue.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx, formerly the mayor of Charlotte, N.C., joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday as a featured speaker.
Union Station has been called a "game changer" by city officials like Denver Mayor Michael Hancock because it will be the transit hub that will connect downtown Denver with the rest of the metro area and Denver International Airport.
The station will serve as a new Regional Transportation District bus terminal as well as a hub for light rail, Amtrak and a new rail line to DIA opening in 2016.
The underground bus concourse will open for service Sunday.
