WESTMINSTER – Police have arrested a 23-year-old man on charges of first-degree murder and sexual assault after a teenager disappeared in Westminster.

Christopher Adam Waide was arrested Thursday in connection with the June 5 disappearance of 19-year-old Lea Chali Porter.

From the very beginning, police investigators had their suspicions about Waide. After all, when detectives initially questioned him about the disappearance, he made up a story in which police knew was a lie they moment they walked out his door.

Waide had told them Porter took off after he tried to get her to quit using drugs. However, police say Porter's car was still parked in the lot right outside Waide's apartment.

According to Westminster police, Waide and police have talked several times prior to his arrest. Police even checked Waide's apartment for evidence since he was the last known person to see Lea Chali Porter.

Police described Waide as a "friend" of Porter's from high school. They had recently reconnected after she broke up with her boyfriend.

According to Porter's family, they called Waide when they didn't hear from her. He gave them some sort of confession Thursday evening. The family then called police. Police were in the process of getting another search warrant for Waide at the time.

Police say Waide gave them a few possible locations of where her body could be.

He is currently being held at the Adams County Detention Facility on a no-bond hold. His first court appearance will be an advisement hearing on June 16.

Westminster police are still actively investigating the case and are searching an area they think Porter's body might be. Porter lived in Pueblo but was last seen visiting her friends in Westminster.
