KUSA – Denver Police are warning residents about a group of suspects they're calling the "Chihuahua Burglars."

Witnesses say two to three men in their late teens or early 20s that are traveling on foot near the West Mississippi Avenue corridor from Federal Boulevard to Sheridan Boulevard.

In the past week, there have been two reports of a child coming to the door, telling the homeowner they have lost a Chihuahua.

The child is accompanied at the door by two men waiting for the child.

If no one answers the doors, the suspects know the home is unoccupied.

Denver Police said the suspects get into the homes through unlocked windows or doggy doors.

Police are warning residents to secure their homes by locking windows as well as doggy doors.
