LARIMER COUNTY - A 5-year Larimer County Sheriff's Office Correctional Deputy resigned on Friday, the same day he was issued a summons for allegedly using excessive force against a jail inmate.

An inmate on July 20 raised concerns that Simon Suarez used excessive force against him while he was being transported to the booking area at the Larimer County Jail, authorities said previously. Supervisory staff initiated a preliminary review of the complaint, and the deputy was placed on paid administrative leave for the duration of the investigation.

After that initial review, the case was turned over to the sheriff's investigation division and ultimately to the Larimer County District Attorney's Office.
