KUSA - Part of Wiley Middleton's fishing gear includes waders. One year, when Middleton was preparing his gear for the season, he realized that he couldn't fit into his waders.

"Those were a medium size," Middleton said. "I went ahead and stepped up to a large size, and an extra-large size. And I basically found out that even the extra-large size did not fit."

Middleton was alarmed and went to a 9Health Fair to have his health assessed.

9Health Fair provides free and low-cost health screenings across the state through June 1. Participants can attend whether or not they have health insurance.

At the health fair, Middleton learned that he needed to lose weight. He also learned that he was diabetic. After learning that, he changed his lifestyle. He started walking and eating healthier foods.

"When I went to see the physician, I had the report 9Health Fair had given me," Middleton said. "It started I was over 300 pounds, and all the other things that could possibly go wrong with the body, went wrong here."

He lost the weight and has maintained a healthy weight for a few years now.

Middleton still attends 9Health Fair. He urges everyone, especially men, to check their health and do whatever they can to extend their life.
