AURORA - Court documents obtained by 9Wants to Know reveal an Adams County sheriff's deputy is locked up for raping his estranged wife.

Deputy Jason Belmont, 42, is currently in the Arapaho County Detention Center under a $150,000 bond.

A criminal affidavit written up by an Aurora Police detective says Belmont raped his estranged wife at his home on Tuesday in a bedroom.

The report describes a violent encounter between Belmont and his estranged wife who told detectives she repeatedly told him to "stop" and screamed out "no."

During the alleged rape, the report says Belmont found a digital audio recorder that was on.

"Jason Belmont became very angry after finding the recorder and told her that he thought she was trying to 'set him up,'" the report said.

After the alleged assault, Belmont is accused of keeping his wife in the bedroom and not allowing her to leave for an hour.

"…Jason would not allow her to leave. [The victim] said that she attempted to do so more than (12) times, but Jason would block the door and either flex his muscles or 'posture.'"

The affidavit says a sexual assault exam was conducted on the alleged victim and a search warrant was executed at Belmont's home.

The report points out the alleged victim would fall asleep when asked questions about the incident and wouldn't turn over her cell phone. The report also notes the alleged victim is currently on probation.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office acknowledged Belmont's arrest on Wednesday night.

"Sheriff [Doug] Darr is aware of the situation and he is obviously disappointed and extremely upset," the press release said.

According to the release, Belmont is a deputy in the Patrol Division and has been employed with the department since 2004.
