AURORA - A motorcyclist is dead after a pickup truck hit him early Monday morning at the corner of East Mississippi Avenue and South Moline Street in Aurora.

According to Aurora Police, the motorcyclist was traveling east on Mississippi Avenue at 2:18 a.m. in the left lane. Two pickup trucks were traveling together, heading west on Mississippi and then turned left to head south on Moline Street.

The first blue pickup truck was being driven by a man and turned in front of the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist laid his bike down in the intersection trying to avoid a crash.

The second black-and-orange pickup truck, driven by another man, drove over the motorcycle and the rider.

Both trucks stopped, and the two drivers looked at the injured rider. Then, they got into their trucks and left the scene. A witness was able to see the aftermath of the scene and get the description of the suspect's trucks.

The motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital but died from his injuries. A Medina Alert was issued and then canceled once police found the trucks and the drivers in south Aurora. Police found evidence that connected the trucks to the hit-and-run.

Police say intoxication is possible as a cause for the crash. The rider was not wearing a helmet but probably would not have survived if he was wearing one. Police are not releasing names at this time.

Drivers are reminded to watch for motorcycles as they are easy to not see. This year, Aurora has had two fatal and one serious injury motorcycle crashes where others have failed to notice and have taken the right of way causing the crash.
