KUSA - Only six other states have had more tornadoes than Colorado in the last 63 years.

An I-News investigation uncovered Colorado's tornado history after a tornado touched down near DIA. It found Colorado ranks near top nationally in tornados.

It sparked sparked the evacuation of the airports common areas.

I-News Rocky Mountain PBS has found Colorado ranks near top nationally in tornados.

9News reporter Vida Urbonas spoke with Burt Hubbard from Rocky Mountain PBS.

"We found that there was one in 1975 which was quite strong for Colorado and if you track it, it went right to the front door of what is now DIA," Hubbard said.

The team also look at all of the tornadoes from 1950.

It found out that Adams County and Weld County have the most tornadoes in Colorado.

They add up to 20 percent of the tornadoes in Colorado.
