FORT COLLINS - A crash on Interstate 25 has killed two people and critically injured a third, according to first responders communicating from the scene.

Northbound I-25 was closed near exit 271, which is just south of the Mountian Vista exit. Traffic was diverted onto the frontage road and there was no estimated time of reopening.

Around 7:30 p.m., a Chevrolet SUV rolled an unknown number of times into the median and ejected two or three occupants, according to Colorado State Patrol trooper Nate Reid. PVH EMS treated and transported patients to area hospitals.

One person died on scene, and another was transported by ambulance, Reid said. Poudre Valley Hospital paramadic Wyandt Holmes said a third patient was flown by helicopter. Officials did not confirm the second fatality.

The crash happened in the southbound lanes between the Mountain Vista and Colorado Highway 1 exits. The vehicles were pushed into the northbound lanes, Holmes said.
