AURORA - A white powder discovered in a 14-year-old boy's backpack at Smoky Hill High School was corn starch. The incident prompted officials to evacuate the school Friday morning.

Aurora police say a couple of students saw the boy walk down a hall with a unknown white powder coming from the teen's backpack. Police did not say if the boy was a student at the school.

The teen was detained and the school was evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Students and staff were evacuated to nearby Laredo Middle School. As a precaution, classes were later dismissed for the remainder of the day while police and fire officials secured the building.

Parents picked up their students on the south side of the school.

If students need to retrieve their personal belongings, they can return to the building through the Activities entrance Saturday - Juniors and seniors from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. and sophomores and freshmen from 9 -10:00 a.m. School and district staff will be on site during that time.
