FORT COLLINS – A dying woman whose final wish was to find her dog a new home before she passes away is one step closer to having her dream come true.
Pat Cudd's time on earth is limited due to an aggressive form of Stage 4 breast cancer. Last week, 9NEWS introduced viewers to Cudd and her dog Sherlock.
Cudd refers to Sherlock as her best friend and her companion in life. Knowing death is imminent with her diagnosis, Cudd put out a request asking for someone to adopt Sherlock.
Hours after her request was made public, hundreds, then eventually thousands of people responded.
Over the last week, Pat and a group of volunteers sifted through every request sent to them.
According to one of Pat's friends, Pat may have found the perfect family. She said it's a local family who far exceeded her expectations.
Pat plans to meet with them later in the week but requested to spend some more time with Sherlock before she gives him up.
The family told Pat she is welcome to meet with Sherlock whenever she wants to.
9NEWS will continue to update this story as it develops.
