LOVELAND - A major drill involving fire departments from all over the Front Range converged in Loveland Tuesday in an effort to react more quickly to wildfires.

"Ultimately that's everything; time is everything," said Mike Morgan, president of Colorado State Fire Chiefs.

Tuesday marked the second time this spring for the drill. The goal was to stage 30 fire trucks from all over the Front Range in 90 minutes.

In the past, when an agency responds to a fire, surrounding fire departments are not automatically notified – at least not all the time. But now, that's changing.

"When I say, 'uh oh, this one's getting away from me.' Every department within 90 minutes of me gets that notification," said Morgan.

Communities are coming together after two summers of devastating wildfires. More than 40 fire departments participated.
