LAKEWOOD - Duane "Dog" Chapman is mixing crime fighting with political stumping while in Colorado.
Lakewood police were involved with Chapman and his wife Beth in the apprehension of a suspect Thursday afternoon near Pierce Street and Colorado Drive.
"Our dispatch center received some information that there was some kind of pursuit going on involving a bondsman that was after somebody," said Lakewood Police Department spokesman Steve Davis.
It was also reported that shots may have been fired.
"With a call like that we got a lot of units responding. A lot of manpower dedicated to that type of call," said Davis.
Once on scene, investigators determined no shots were fired, but non-lethal weapons including a taser and red pepper balls were used. No one was hit.
Duane "Dog" Chapman, his wife Beth and their crew have been filming in Colorado for about 3 weeks. Thursday afternoon they were looking for David Anderson, who failed to show up for court a few weeks ago.
"We were trying to apprehend him when he took off at high speeds, " said Beth Chapman.
After a short chase Anderson got out of his car and was confronted "Dog" and his crew. He was taken into custody and handed over to Lakewood Police.
"The most important thing here is that the fugitive is in custody, his sort of little reign of terror ended here on this street and he was put into custody. More charges are being added," said Beth Chapman.
Under Colorado law, bounty hunters do not have to notify law enforcement that they're in the area working. Lakewood Police asked the Chapmans if they would notify them in the future and they agreed.
Duane "Dog" Chapman starred in the reality TV series "Dog the Bounty Hunter" on A&E for eight seasons. He currently stars in the show "Dog and Beth: On the Hunt" on CMT. Portions of the show filmed in the Denver area are scheduled to air in about 3 months.
Duane Chapman and his wife are apparently also political supporters of Gubernatorial candidate Tom Tancredo, The Chapmans are hosting a fundraiser for Tancredo Friday night at the Stampede.
