KUSA - Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of tourism season for Estes Park, where rivers are rising and officials are warning residents to enjoy the rivers from a distance.
"The swift-flowing rivers are definitely beautiful to look at, but you don't want to get to close to 'em," said Kate Rusch, spokesperson for Estes Park. "We saw a jump overnight of pretty much double the stream flow."
More rain is expected Sunday night.
"It makes you very worried and scared that it's happening again," said Ben Vigil, who lives along Fish Creek just outside of Estes Park.
He and his wife watched water wipe away their garage last September. Saturday night, heavy rain fell and Vigil says temporary banks on the stream near their garage were broken in some spots.
"It takes you right back to what we had last September 13," he said.
