KUSA – Charges were filed Thursday in connection with a drunken brawl at a Denver police officer's home.
Husband and wife, Jeremy and Jamie Ownbey were both charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse. Jamie was charged misdemeanor assault and Jeremy with trespassing. The child abuse charges stem from the couple allegedly leaving their two small children alone at home.
The May 19 incident between two off-duty Denver police officers and their wives started with one woman allegedly punching the other, according to the Aurora police investigation. The alleged incident took place at Denver Police Officer Steven Sloan's and his wife Stephanie's home.
The Sloans were hosting a get together involving another couple, the Ownbeys. Jeremy Ownbey is also an officer with Denver police. They had each brought a bottle of alcohol and all parties drank several drinks throughout the night.
The documents reveal that Stephanie felt Jamie had been disrespectful at some points of the night and Stephanie had asked Jamie and her husband Jeremy to leave.
Stephanie told police Jamie had been "forcing" tequila shots on her and asking her to "wrestle." Jamie took off her top at one point of the night, exposing her lace undergarment.
Documents say that Jamie also sent a text to Stephanie that said "We're both on the same team, you just don't know it yet."
The documents obtained by 9NEWS reveal that the two Denver off-duty officers and one of their wives had at one point been involved in swinging, a practice where couples share partners. But according to documents, the couples told police swinging wasn't the reason for the party.
Aurora police had asked if the motivation for the dinner party was to try to convince Stephanie to participate in the sexual practice, but Jamie told investigators it was not.
According to the police report, the Ownbeys were asked to leave. As the couple left Jamie allegedly punched or hit Stephanie in the head. Jamie denied hitting Stephanie.
Court records say after the alleged encounter between the two wives, the two men allegedly fought. Aurora police say Steven pulled his gun during the incident. It is unclear if he pointed it at Jeremy.
Court documents reveal Jeremy may have left the Sloan's home drunk. He admitted he'd been drinking to Aurora police investigating the disturbance. An Aurora police officer drove Jeremy home in his own car while another officer followed.
The four Aurora police officers are subjects of an internal affairs investigation for not conducting a DUI check on Jeremy. The Aurora officers also failed to ask if the Ownbey's children were being supervised.
"We should have investigated further. We made a poor decision," APD spokesperson Frank Fania said about the investigation.
Court records show that the two Denver officers went through the academy together and were hired in 2006. They considered themselves close. 9NEWS has learned Jeremy works patrol in District 6, which covers downtown and Lower Downtown area. Steven is a detective in traffic investigations. Both are currently on desk duty.
9NEWS has learned Jamie Ownbey works for Cherry Creek Schools as a secretary. She didn't show up for work Thursday.
