LOVELAND – In just a few days, Pat Cudd and her dog Sherlock will be reunited at their new home in Fort Collins.
Pat Cudd was diagnosed with a terminal form of cancer and has only a few months to live. Her dying wish is to find a new home for her dog.
After 9NEWS originally ran the story, thousands of people opened up their homes and offered to take Sherlock in. Cudd chose someone and that's where Sherlock has been for the last month.
During that time, Cudd moved in with a friend in Loveland. This week, Cudd told us she found a new home in Fort Collins, near Colorado State University.
She plans to move in there on June 21. The person who took Sherlock in agreed to let Cudd have him back until she feels too ill to care for him completely.
"Each day that I live is a gift and a blessing. The thought of my being with him. I'm not with him right now. The thought of my being with him is getting me up every day. With that hope, I'm now counting down the days," Cudd said.
Cudd has not been able to see Sherlock for a few weeks now. She's looking forward to see him running through their new yard on Saturday.
Although Cudd's diagnosis hasn't changed, she said she is feeling stronger.
