SUPERIOR - Two dogs are dead and a cat is unaccounted for after a fire broke out at a duplex in the 300 block of South 3rd Street Sunday afternoon. The home is believed to be a total loss.

Firefighters first received a call about the fire at 12:10 p.m.

No one was home in one of the units when the blaze broke out. The other occupants were notified about the fire by neighbors, according to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.

Due to the hot weather and the intensity of the fire, multiple agencies were called to respond.

The cause and origin of the fire is currently under investigation.
