DENVER - A Denver man who was found shot to death over the weekend was a popular photographer and producer in Colorado.
Philip Lucero had his own production company and worked on numerous documentaries and projects over the years. Lucero was also a freelance producer at 9NEWS from 1998 to 2001.
Friends say he was passionate about his family and his job.
Sunday morning, Lucero was found dead in his car near Colorado and Martin Luther King boulevards. Investigators ruled it a homicide.
One of his close friends, Lorenzo Trujillo, is baffled by what happened.
"It was truly shocking, because this is not an end that we would expect to happen to Phil," Trujillo said. "He was truly cared for by the whole community. Who would do that? Who would be so hateful?"
Lucero filmed a documentary for the local organization, Hilos Culturales, aimed at preserving cultural traditions. The documentary was accepted into the Southern Colorado Film Festival about a week ago.
