CANON CITY – Crews has contained all of the possible area in the Eightmile Fire.
Firefighters have contained 65 percent of the 528 acre blaze. The remaining area consists of rocky, difficult terrain and cannot be contained, according to a news release from the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team. A majority of the crew managing the fire will be sent home.
The fire is located six miles northeast of Canon City, and is believed to have been started by lightning. One heat related injury has been reported.
Crews are also working to battle the Phantom Fire, which is one mile west of the Eightmile fire's perimeter. The cause is currently unknown, and engines are expected to patrol the area on Wednesday.
