A little make up goes a long way — and thanks to a new social media trend, for some, it's even been transformative.

All week, people on Twitter and Instagram have been turning themselves into celebrities, Internet stars and even some animated characters with a #makeuptransformation. The trend started with a few men on Twitter and Instagram mocking beauty bloggers, and quickly grew. The hashtag has been used 3,450 times since Aug. 10, according to Topsy.

Using four panels, people on Instagram and Twitter take photos of themselves applying a little powder here, a little mascara there and then finally the finished product. By makeover's end, they turn into their doppelgängers, sometimes of the opposite sex.

Some turn into Joseph Gordon Levitt, Drake, Kris Kardashian and even Jeremy Meeks, the "hot felon" whose mugshot went viral in June.
