KUSA - It was standing-room only today at Senior Day at the Capitol.

A crowd of several hundred seniors packed the hearing room to discuss "quality of life" issues for Colorado's older citizens.

9NEWS Anchor Mark Koebrich opened the ceremony with comments about the importance of the senior voting block. The Colorado Senior Lobby sees this as an important year in that the entire Colorado House and half of the Colorado Senate are up for election.

The Colorado Senior Lobby works to influence change through advocacy and education of public officials on current issues, and they are growing in size and importance.

Between 2000 and 2010, the 65-plus crowd in Colorado grew twice as fast as any other population group in the state. By the year 2030, the 65-plus population will grow by 150 percent.
